Beginners Class

This class is for people who are just beginning their dog’s training or who simply want to train a family pet to be under control and to be a civilized and well-behaved companion. It teaches you how to use positive training methods to train your dog to follow basic commands such as sit, down, come when called, walk quietly on leash, and pay attention to you even around distractions.

The course runs for 9 weeks. The final class provides a review of all the commands so the dogs can demonstrate what they’ve learned and have their progress assessed.

Time: Classes normally meet on Thursdays at 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30 and run for 45 minutes. The first night of class is Thursday, April 10, 2025. The last class is on June 5.

These three classes give instruction in advanced obedience exercises and are designed for people who want to teach their dogs higher level skills, such as those needed to compete in obedience competitions and to earn titles such as those offered by the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC).

We regret that we are currently unable to offer competition obedience classes at  the Novice, Open, or Utility level for the current session.

Dogs should have completed our Beginners class at least once before taking this course. This class builds on the basic skills the dogs learned in the Beginners class. It also aims to train dogs to the level where they should be able to compete and earn the  Canadian Kennel Club's Canine Good Neighbour (CGN) degree and also have the skills to enter dog shows with the idea of earning the Pre-Novice or Novice titles.

The course runs for 9 weeks. The final class provides a review of all the commands so the dogs can demonstrate what they’ve learned and have their progress assessed.

Location of Classes

Rally obedience is an all-inclusive sport that shows off the partnership between you and your dog. CKC has described it as a motivational game. In Rally you follow a numbered course where each station directs you to perform a set obedience exercise. It is important that both you and your dog have fun! Take a look at some recent CKC rally runs on YouTube. This is a 6-week introductory level course.

Note: dogs must have completed a basic beginner’s obedience class (including walking on a loose leash and doing a sit and down on command).

Dogs in this class work on a collar. Harnesses are not permitted in this class.
